Assistant Director of Human Resources
The City of Norfolk is seeking an Assistant Director of Human
Resources as part of its innovative, IPMA award-winning Human Resources
Department. The City has 3,491 FTEs, including 37 employees
in the Human Resources Department. The Department’s
initiatives include development of strategic recruitment, workforce
planning and development, leadership development, creative compensation
and wellness approaches, and proactive employee relations. The
successful candidate will be a creative, innovative leader who
is able to lead project teams, motivate staff, and promote customer
service. The Assistant works closely with the Director to
manage daily HR operations and with other departments as strategic
business partners to enhance the overall performance of departments.
Additional duties include leading city-wide implementation of initiatives,
overseeing HR information systems and technology, and recommending
best practice approaches. Excellent communication, interpersonal,
and problem-solving skill are necessary.
Education: Seven years experience
in HR management required, four of which should be supervisory,
with public sector experience preferred. Bachelor’s
degree in Human Resources Administration, Public or Business Administration
or related field is required, with Master’s preferred.
Salary: Salary
range is $64,206-$113,002, plus benefits.
